Binita had been giving me steady updates and analysis on Indian Idol 3. The other Indian Idol shows had gone unnoticed. But the oft-neglected Nepali community had someone competing in its third installment—a Nepali named Prashant Tamang.
On September 23, 2007, Tamang won Indian Idol 3. His talents (though modest, comparatively) were boosted by extremely active supporters. For example, the mayor of a city near Darjeeling, Mirik, pledged Rs. 10,000 for SMS voting.
Now that Tamang has won, it’s less about community than communal. Riots, that is. The Times Online is reporting riots in Siliguri and elsewhere in India’s north-east. Tamang has gone on national TV to ask for calm.
In ten days, Binita and I will be flying to Siliguri on our way to Darjeeling. I’m not really bothered by all this, though. Odd that Tamang was formerly a police officer. I do feel as if India goes from zero to riot in almost nothing flat. So much for Naxalites and Maoists.

I came to know about the comment by that shit -head RJ today. I just can’t understand how ignorant people can be. If I meet him, i think I’ll just slit his throat wide open! Sometimes, these people just makes one go insane. What I guess is, this guy has not even hatched properly. Only his head is sticking out of his egg-shell, and a mic is given to him!. Hey! there’s a big big world out there u need to see!..F*****g frog in the well!!….
I’m not sure what that RJ said precisely, but I suspect it doesn’t warrant throat slitting.
Hey….Anyone who do bad comments for prashant…should go to hell….If i found anyone who comments any bad to prashant ..I cannot bear…becoz I am Nepali…and One Nepali is enought to fight for 10000 Indian…Thought India is big in size but Nepal is big in heart….love…and prosperality…..so I hate each and every bloody Indians who say Nepal is bad…..That’s it….

Jai Nepal!!!!!!!!
I especially enjoyed the non-sequitor .
first of all these ashole nepalis want to claim that he is nepali, fuckin indian govt should get rid of all nepalis, these jerks stay in India and then claim to be nepali when they win it…
it was all politics, he didnt deserve to win and played games
RJ you rock!!! nepalis r l asholes
@Kevin: I’ve met Prashant in Kathmandu. He himself says he’s Nepali. And remember, Indian Idol is a popularity contest, which means your opinion is in the minority (thank God). More people in India wanted Prashant, a Nepali, to win. That’s a fact.
Scott says: “I’ve met Prashant in Kathmandu. He himself says he’s Nepali.”
I met George Bush in Delhi and he says he is Indian.

Indian Idol does not follow one (wo)man, one vote principle. Instead it is one SMS one vote. The results could have been different had a fair poll been carried out.
PS: I have nothing against Prashant though.
Ah, but you mistake fair for popular. And if the others had been more popular, they would have received more SMS votes.
Supporters of Prashant got mad voting for him. Your whole country as well as 2 Indian states raised millions of rupees to support him. It was as if his victory would symbolize your victory over India(??). You voted exclusively on racial lines. Poor guy Amit didn’t have such overzealous voters. That is why I suspect this was not a very fair contest.
u dirty indians have to accept the fact that a nepali won against the will of indian people, cover ur face with dhotis !!
Yes shrestha. We dirty Indians have to realize that the Nepali shit has won through unfair means. Meanwhile, you better get back to Maoism and enjoy your country’s rape by China!
Even though I wanted Amit vs. Emon finale, I had a feeling Prashant wud have ended up winning b/c he had more support involving the Kolkata police, etc and that kind of support rather than those two. If I am judging on talent Amit and Emon were brilliant; Prashant is good but I’m pretty sure he has 2 work hard like those two b/c they are already becoming stars. Prashant will do well only if he keeps trying. TBH I wud have been happy if either Emon or Amit won the title; sry Prashant fans
